One Big Puddle is a global community of citizen environmentalists who work to solve the world’s water issues and increase intercultural understanding through photography. Why water? Every living being depends on water, regardless of money, age, race, gender, or physical ability. Water is essential to the human condition and will become a definitive issue in the 21st century. In some ways, One Big Puddle aims to bridge the gulf between the environmental awareness of the ordinary world citizen and the environmental issues discussed in the Copenhagen Climate Conference. Through your participation, One Big Puddle will reveal what people across the globe perceive to be the greatest water issues affecting their community. One Big Puddle also seeks to inspire and mobilize people like you for the environment and humanity. One Big Puddle will empower, counteracting the sense of helpless and futility that is often the impediment to taking action. One Big Puddle will accomplish this by providing a space and a reason for concerned world citizens, like you, to voice their opinions about water issues where they know they will be heard. One Big Puddle is more than just idealism and awareness – it is making waves. One Big Puddle uses your photographs as data to inform its partner organizations and influence their policies. In this way your photographs will not only affect the way other members view the world but it will impact water policy. So pick up your camera and open your eyes and hopefully somebody else’s too; the world is one big puddle – make your ripple.
This video is an example of the power of photography; the power you have to change how we think:
